  Fat cats know how to live. It's a snow day and also Anniversary Day. We actually went out yesterday in anticipation of the snow and spent a bunch of quarters at the mall arcade. The Jurassic Park game is really fun with the Walking Dead (which is similar in style) a close second. I looked it up...a new one is only $9200!   I did so little drawing last year and I feel so rusty. So this at least looks like a kitten, right? That leg angle gave me some real trouble (you can probably see the eraser burn...thought I was gonna burn a hole in the page)! My so-called skills may be shaky, but I have already learned something...use the HB pencil because the 2H I used yesterday is barely visible in the photograph. It's only day 2, but so far I am pleased with my simplification of this practice. I spent but a few frustrated minutes on it and now I can move on to something else. Accomplishments! Progress!   2021: Don't Look Back This will be my third attempt at the year-long daily creative project. But, having gone through two previous attempts, I think I have learned something very important that may possibly help me succeed this time. I think my Bug-a-Day projects were just too ambitious (yes, some were horrible rush jobs, but others took hours, and I always began them thinking I needed to make something good even if it didn't turn out that way...in other words, sometimes I stressed myself out about it). Additionally, sometimes I'd spend what felt like an hour just looking for a good insect subject to draw.  So, new rules this time. I will draw *something* *anything* daily. And it can take just a few minutes, or if I feel so bold, an all-day painting session to create something finished. So here is a cat. I'm tired and it took just a minute or two to draw. Yay! My Hubs made a Friday 13th meme with my cat Damien I have not totally accepted defeat for this art challenge I imposed on myself, but I have fallen hopelessly behind at this point to where I can't make up the days because there are too many! My hubs and I have been searching every avenue to make the Maine farm a reality, house hunting around FL as a back-up plan, and I need to make more cats for the shop because we need to boost our income. All of this is to say I haven't been able to keep up with Bug-A-Day. I will, however, pick things back up again once our housing situation settles, and after I make some non-bug related things for the etsy shop. Need to diversify for a bit :3 [Friday, March 13, 2020]

Today's drawing is inspired by tonight's full moon (and I managed to sneak a cat into the Bug-A-Day drawings!) There is a luna moth on her tail. Unfortunately I didn't have time to finish it so it's just a rough sketch. [February 9, 2020]

I grew up with black cats, but for the last 17 years, I've had two ginger cats. Thus far, I've made only black cat linos for my shop, but today, in honor of my beloved ginger cats and ginger cats the world over, I've made a ginger print run! These all sold out - thank you! Day 27 Make something with another #CreativeSprint-er. Snout Butterfly on a Snout Since I don't know any other CreativeSprinters my friend LJ helped me out with this collaboration. She has nagged me since I can remember to make stuff with butterflies, which I stubbornly refuse to do for snobbish (and hypocritical she points out) reasons. So here's how this butterfly project came to be (through the magic of texts and teamwork): SAG: Think of Bug things. What comes to mind? LJ: >:3 LJ: Butterflies. SAG: Somehow I knew that was coming. Day 26 Create a frame using any materials. Take it with you wherever you go and use it to capture anything you view as beautiful. Day 11 Spill something and make something with or inspired by the mess. Lady Kibble I'm preparing to head to the airport and spend the next week in Phoenix, AZ. The cats were so kind as to provide the spill for me, in the form of all the rejected kibble lying outside their bowl.  Additionally, there has been a ladybug hanging out in my house for the last few days, and I thought that seemed like something I could pull off with the limited amount of meat crunchies on the floor. I also took advantage of the white space on the floor for the ladybug's pronotum. So it's a green two-spot ladybug. Made of kibble. Mmmm. Rejected Crunchies Don't they know their prescription diet costs $45 a bag?! I had a customer whilst creating.

Maneki Neko , completed July 23, 2015 Here is a photographic illustration of how I make lino block prints...  original pencil sketch Every lino starts with a sketch. Often I will flip the image (and resize if necessary) using the computer. Sometimes I can trace onto the block directly from the original. Here I am using graphite paper to transfer the drawing (which is under the white paper in this photo). Note that the image has been flipped. Since I work primarily on a small scale (usually smaller than 2" x 3" - 5 x 7.5 cm), I typically use just three blade types for cutting the design into the linoleum: the #1 V blade for details, the #2 V blade for further outlining, and the #5 U blade for removing the excess linoleum. Here I have cut the detail lines and the outline once with the #1 blade. This is the second outline with the #1.  I widen the outline around the image in stages for two reasons.
