Just making up another missed day due to illness with another punishment roach drawing. The insides of this roach's sandwich have fallen out. Now he is sad. [February 8, 2020]

I actually missed two more days because of my cold. Here, a terrible roach displays how terrible it is at kite flying. Why Not? [February 7, 2020]

I am preemptively drawing the "missed-a-day" punishment cockroach because I am feeling under the weather and know I would have otherwise missed today. So here is Mr. Cockroach prostrated on his easy chair with hot water bag, cup of (nasty) herbal tea, and comfy blanket. If he was a real cockroach I'd squish him and put him out of his misery. Yep. I missed another day. Yesterday was full of paperwork and unease. Let that be my excuse. As stated just a short few days ago , anytime I miss a day, the punishment is a roach. [for January 15, 2020]

I did not complete my daily bug yesterday! Shame! So I forced myself to draw this sad cockroach, which is the view you would have if it were crawling on your face. Blah! I've stated on here before that, as much as I love bugs, I have no love for roaches (though a certain few are tolerable, perhaps "cute" e.g. the domino roach...), so this is my punishment every time I miss a day - I will draw a roach. :P [for January 10, 2020] PS - "roach on the face" is supposed to be a bad pun on "egg on your face" for when you do something dumb and embarrassing.

"It's National Poetry Month! Write a poem or make something inspired by a poem you like" I decided to create tanka, a classical Japanese poetry style similar to haiku in that you have a set number of syllables per line. Tanka are 5-7-5-7-7 and often depend on puns and double entendres for meaning (I have no such skill). They were frequently introduced with a bit of prose describing the feeling, thoughts, mood, scenery, or any other bit of information about why or when it was composed, that gave further depth and context to the short poems. When a friend asked me to name a favorite insect I replied: The tiger beetle Mantispids are another Mantids, can't deny My favorite's hard to pin Can't even choose an Order! On discovering my beloved mantids belonged with vile roaches on the cladogram: Preying mantids may evolutionarily  be predatory elongated cockroaches, I pray not show revulsion More on classical Japan here . ...

This is what it feels like to have carpenter ants raid your home. I have a confession to make. As one who loves insects, there are some insects I hate . The short list: Carpenter ants in my house Fire ants regardless of location "American" cockroach (aka palmetto bug) "German/Asian" cockroach *Other roaches receive strong dislike* (written with irony, because I love Mantids which are essentially big predatory cockroaches) The sketch is of the little guest house I rent (in brown & black micron pen). The ants do raid it from time to time but the cold weather gives reprieve. That said, I still saw one this morning. >:( Death to all roaches and ants that enter my house!!! [January 13, 2016]

Day 18 Make something and trade it for something you want. Incomplete! Yep, I used paper clay again and it isn't dry. Hopefully it won't take two days like the Halloween dish. I'm already playing catch up from my day of travel. 10/20/15: Finished! It's a domino cockroach, which is actually cute for a cockroach (believe it or not I have a cockroach phobia). Composed of paperclay, metal wires, a metal pinback, acrylic paint, and varnish. Tomorrow I will attempt to trade it at the botanical garden where I volunteer. 10/21/15: The Trade The pin was traded for this sketch of yucca and grass by fellow garden volunteer L. I requested a bug on the leaf.
